johanna nivakoski (b. 1991) is a finnish artist based in amsterdam. as a self-taught painter and illustrator, her work draws from experiences and impressions in her own life through portraits and different human figures. visual diary, as she calls her work, focuses on the inner state rather than people itself. johanna’s intuitive painting style is best known for its bold brush strokes and peaceful arrangemnts of dirty pastels and bright colours. her approach is contemporary and main themes often follow the subjects of love, healing and growth. with constantly evolving ways to understand the human mind and curiosity for the human body, johanna enjoys challenging herself to paint through all life situations. each artwork reflects a personal event or feeling experienced in a present moment in her life. words placed in the paintings are her way of strengthening the emotion and the story of her works. she feels this process combines best the material and spiritual bond between her art and self while growing and learning to understand her own journey as a woman.

a warm welcome to my world.
